Orange Bread

Ingredients Makes 2 loafs

 2 cups hot water

5 cups all-purpose flour

 2/3 cup sugar

1 ½ tablespoons active dry yeast

 1 ½ teaspoons salt

 ¼ cup vegetable oil

1 tablespoons dehydrated orange peel

Note: You can just shave some orange peel off an orange

Instructions

Activate the Yeast

In a large mixing bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water.

Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5–10 minutes, until it becomes foamy.

Mix the Dough

Stir in the salt and vegetable oil.

Gradually add the flour, one cup at a time, mixing well after each addition.

Knead the Dough

Place it in a greased bowl, cover with a clean towel, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes, until smooth and elastic. I put mine in a electric mixer and add the orange peel.

Shape the Loaves

Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal parts. Shape each portion into a loaf and place them in greased or parchment paper loaf pans. Make sure to put a cup of hot water next to them when you cover them.

Second Rise

Cover and let the dough rise for another 30–45 minutes, until it reaches the top of the pan.

Bake the Bread

Preheat your oven to 350°F  Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until golden brown. Add a pan half filled with water to help bread stay soft.

Cool and Serve

Remove from pans and let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
